Updated Parent Job list online (Updated 4/22/2010):

The parent job list for each meet has been updated to accommodate several changes for families who joined the team or who may have had to drop out for one reason or another. Please double check your volunteer dates and job assignments (ParentJobs ) before our first meet this Saturday. Specific dates have not necessarily changed; however, swaps may have occurred (ie: volunteer changed from Runner to Relief Timer for the same meet) to ensure we have all volunteers needed for meets to run safely and efficiently.

PARENT JOBS

Like all youth sports, swim teams are run by swim parents.  As such, it is required that all swim team families volunteer for swim meets PLUS Time Trials and the League Championships.
At swim meets, your swimmers are timed, officiated, organized, administrated, and awarded. Swimmers participate in social events, receive incentives, etc.--- on EVERY swim team, the PARENTS are responsible for these duties. In short, ClubSport of San Ramon Marlins simply cannot run without a commitment from each and every family. Upon registering for the swim team, you must also submit a $100 deposit.  If a parent fails to fulfill ANY volunteer obligations for the dual meets, including arriving late or leaving early, they will be assessed $100 for the missed job, and be required to re-deposit $100 for your children to be eligible to swim.

Below are a list of all job assignments for each upcoming meet.  Job assignments for the end of season League meet will be assigned just prior to the League meet.  Please click on the desired meet to see job assignments.  If you cannot work an assigned job, it is your responsibility to contact other parents, switch jobs and then the Meet Director of any switched jobs.  In the event of an emergency wherein you become unable to attend a meet without having found a replacement, please contact the Meet Director.

In an effort to assist with finding a replacement for your job, you can now also post a message on the Parent Jobs Section of the
Message Board .  This part of the Message Board is protected so that you can feel safe leaving contact information.

Below are descriptions of the various parent jobs.

TIMERS/TIMER-RECORDERS/HEAD TIMER
: At least one timer from each team sits (in a chair, under shade) behind the lane (there are three timers total from both teams behind each lane).  All timers will meet prior to the start of the meet with the Head Timer to make sure everyone is present and to answer any questions timers may have.  Timers time the swimmer in their lane, and then give the average time to the TIMER-RECORDER (this person both times and records all of the times, circling the “middle” time).  If a watch fails, then the time is taken from the HEAD TIMER’S watch; this person is the back up timer and is not assigned to a lane.

RUNNERS: Runners collect the recorded time sheets at the end of each event from every lane.  They then deliver these sheets to the Computer Input crew.

COMPUTER INPUT: Input swimmers’ finishing times into a database, which sorts out official results.  (Job assigned to one family for entire season.)

RIBBON LABELERS AND SORTERS: After all times have been input into the database by the Computer Crew, official results and award labels are printed out (first-sixth place for individual events, first and second place for relays).  Ribbon labelers place the labels on ClubSport swimmers’ ribbons and put them in the swimmers’ file.

STROKE AND TURN JUDGE: 2 stroke and turn judges are provided by each team for every meet. Judges are “trained” by the aquatic staff on the rules and regulations of all four strokes, starts, turns, and finishes (for example, swimmers must touch with two hands in the breast and fly; swimmers must not leave early on a relay exchange).  Judges watch all swimmers for illegal moves, which constitute either a warning (given to the 6 and unders) or a disqualification.  If either occurs, the judge documents it on an official slip and then gives it to both the scoring table (disqualifications do not score) and the coach.

SHEPHERDS: Each gender of each age group, up to the 9/10 age group, will have around 2 or 3 Shepherds who help gather the swimmers together and bring them to their correct heat and lane AT LEAST 2 EVENTS PRIOR to their scheduled event.  As it is difficult for swimmers to remember when they are due to swim, Shepherds help to minimize any confusion and swimmers missing their events.  Shepherds will have a copy of all of the events (heats and lanes) of the meet so they know who is swimming what when.

MEET DIRECTOR: This person helps to organize all parent jobs and oversees every swim meet.  They are responsible for “check-in” at every meet, which entails checking off every swimmer who attends, as well as the parents who will work.  The purposes of the check in are so the coaches can adjust the line-up for swimmer no-shows, and the meet director can re-arrange the parent-job schedule for parent no-shows.  This person addresses any problems at the meet.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE: There are 2 parents for each gender of every age group (11 and up swimmers constitute as an age group) who are in charge of promoting, planning, and organizing all of the social activities throughout the season, such as parties, dinners, movie days, etc. It is very important that the team develops bonds on and off the pool deck.  While we will be organizing events which the whole team attends, gender and age-specific gatherings will occur more regularly.

INCENTIVES: The incentive coordinators are responsible for reviewing all the swimmers’ times after every meet (you will receive a printout of all swimmers who received best times after each meet) and awarding them with Best Times pins.  Pins will be given out during the week(s) following the corresponding swim meet.  Incentive coordinators will also reward swimmers for excellent attendance and sportsmanship.
